Stories About Birds

You might have seen some of our newest designs of beautiful birds have come from a new collaborator, the talented Kayla Reay. What you might not have seen is the lovely little stories Kayla has written for each (in the product description).

We've previously shared the hardworking Baz the Bin Man, Clive the Cyclist, Corey the Cricketer, Fraser the Fisherman, Kyle the Comedian, Gail the Chip Shop Gull, Denny the Drummer, and Damian the Demolition Cockatoo.

Kayla has now blessed us with a bunch more birds! You can read little snippets of their biographies below, but please click through to read more about their unique personalities.

Brenda is a Peregrine Falcon with a passion for birdwatching. Armed with her well-worn copy of Field Guide to the Birds of Australia, she loves to set off on solo treks into the bush, scanning the skies for delicious…sorry, deliciously beautiful birds.

Born in the high eaves of Broadway, Darnell is a sophisticated pigeon who has an affinity for posh living and a taste for only the finest crumbs in life. With his wide and confident strut, Darnell redefines the pecking order of style in New York’s urban jungle. “Pigeon is such a dirty word, darling”, he’ll coo as he insists his colleagues refer to him by his correct title: a Rock Dove.

Marvin the Mallard fancies himself the smoothest sax player to ever waddle across the stage of his local jazz bar. Always seen in his slightly greasy fedora and blue clip-on tie (he doesn’t know how to tie a real one, but he’s absolutely certain no one can tell that his is a clip on), Marvin's got a big mouth and an even bigger bravado. The only time he shuts up is when his bill’s pressed to the reed, crooning out what he calls “pure pondside jazz.”

Basil the Grey Butcherbird proudly runs "Butcherbird Butchers," a family-owned business that’s been a cornerstone of the community since the early 1900s. Draped in his apron and butcher’s hat, Basil is famous for two things: his perfectly seasoned meat pies and his insistence that they’re “World Famous.” While many locals rave about them, sceptics wonder how world-famous they can truly be when the nearest traffic light is a two-hour drive away.

A proud raven with a royal flair, Rosaline is stationed at the historic Tower of London as a Yeoman Warder, or what some may know as a ‘Beefeater’. With a keen eye for shiny things, Rosaline has shown great discipline in her role of protecting the royal jewels. She can often be seen squawking regal commands to imaginary subjects as she paces the barracks of the royal establishment, wings tucked tightly behind back.
