Ethical Clothing, Made in Sydney

Lonely Kids Club is an independent graphic apparel brand based in Sydney, Australia. We have been making ethical clothing since 2011, and we try to be straightforward about how that actually works in practice.

Every part of our process, from the blank garment to the ink on the print to the packaging your order arrives in, has been chosen with people and the environment in mind. Below is a full breakdown of how we operate and why.

Our Garments

We source our blank garments exclusively from AS Colour, a New Zealand founded brand that publishes more supply chain detail than almost any other blank supplier in the market. Their supply chain spans 32 garment factories, and their sourcing is independently certified and audited across multiple frameworks.

AS Colour's certifications and initiatives include:

  • Amfori BSCI — membership of the leading global framework for social compliance in supply chains, covering worker rights and environmental protection across their factory network, with a Code of Conduct aligned to ILO principles.
  • Better Cotton Initiative — cotton sourced through the BCI, which works to improve the livelihoods of cotton farmers and reduce the environmental impact of cotton production globally.
  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 — certified non-toxic fabrics, ensuring the dyeing process meets strict environmental and human safety standards for the people who make, sell, and wear them.
  • Reemi partnership — AS Colour partners with Reemi to provide sustainable period products to women working in their supply chain, recognising that women make up over 80% of the global garment workforce.

You can view AS Colour's full supply chain and see the individual factories they work with on their website. We use them precisely because that level of transparency is publicly available and independently verified.

We only work with a small number of trusted suppliers and maintain long term relationships with all of them. We know our embroiderers and seamstresses personally, meet with them regularly, and treat them accordingly.

Our Sydney Studio

Once blanks arrive, everything else happens at our studio and warehouse in Sydney, Australia. All printing, finishing, packing, and dispatch is done in house by our small team. There is no outsourcing of this stage to a third party print facility.

We print using Epson DTG (direct to garment) equipment. The inks are OEKO-TEX certified, meeting the same non-toxic and environmentally responsible standard as the garments themselves. No harmful chemicals, no compromise on the print side to undo the work done on the sourcing side.

How We Produce

We follow a made-to-order model. Items are printed when you order them, not before. This means we do not overproduce, do not sit on large quantities of unsold stock, and do not generate the kind of waste that comes from speculative bulk manufacturing. Production runs are limited and our products are designed to be seasonless rather than trend-driven.

We use a high proportion of lower-impact materials and publish an aggregate breakdown of what goes into our range. Lower-impact fibres also help reduce the chemical, water, and wastewater footprint across the supply chain compared to conventional alternatives.

Packaging and Carbon

We use biodegradable satchels and recycled paper inserts. Our studio power is carbon neutral, and our shipping is fully carbon neutral. We have taken steps to minimise packaging at every stage and continue to look for improvements where they are available.

People

We provide employment for people with neurodivergence and other disabilities and are committed to continuing to do so.

Our factory sourcing through AS Colour covers workers across the supply chain with an audited Code of Conduct, external inspections, and a framework for ongoing improvement where standards fall short. We ensure that some workers in the final production stage are paid living wages, and that women working in our supply chain have access to adequate healthcare through AS Colour's Reemi partnership.

Animals

Our entire product range is vegan. No animals are harmed at any point in our production process. We do not use leather, fur, or any other animal derived materials.

The only time animals come into contact with our products is when our dogs use them as blankets and beds. We did once dress them in the jumpers for a photoshoot. They looked very content.

Transparency

We trace most of our supply chain, including all of the final production stage. Our second stage suppliers are located in lower-risk countries or certified facilities. A breakdown of our suppliers is available through Lonely Kids Club directly. If you have questions about any part of our process, you can contact us and we will answer them.

We have been making clothing ethically in Australia since 2011. It is not a recent addition to our brand positioning. It is just how we have always operated.
