Best Hoodies Australia

It is getting cold again and everyone is looking for a hoodie. The problem is most hoodie guides send you toward the same handful of options — big sportswear brands, fast fashion staples, or whatever is on sale at the moment.

This guide to graphic hoodies in Australia is for a different kind of person. Someone who wants an Australian hoodie that actually says something. Something with a design worth looking at, made by people who care about what they are putting out into the world.

We run Lonely Kids Club, an independent brand based in Sydney. We have been making graphic hoodies since 2011, printed to order right here in our studio. So yes, we are going to talk about our own hoodies. But we will also cover what to actually look for when buying any hoodie in Australia.

What Makes a Good Hoodie

Before getting into specific picks, here is what actually matters.

Weight. A good hoodie sits around 380 to 430 GSM. Light enough to be comfortable, heavy enough to actually keep you warm. Anything under 300 GSM is going to feel thin and lose its shape quickly.

Cotton content. Cotton hoodies breathe better and feel softer against skin. Cotton-polyester blends can be fine, but pure cotton or high cotton content is usually the better call for everyday wear.

Print quality. For graphic hoodies specifically, the print matters as much as the garment. DTG (direct to garment) printing works well when done properly on a quality base — the design is printed directly into the fabric rather than applied on top, giving a softer hand feel and better durability. You can read more about how DTG printing works in our full explainer. What you want to avoid is a design that cracks after a few washes or fades after the first summer.

Fit. Hoodies have drifted oversized and that is fine, but make sure the oversized is intentional rather than just badly made. A good hoodie fits consistently across sizes and does not shrink dramatically in the wash.

What to Look For in a Graphic Hoodie Specifically

A graphic hoodie has one extra consideration on top of all of the above: the design has to hold up over time. Not just physically, but culturally. A hoodie you are still happy to reach for in three years is worth more than one that felt funny for about a week.

The best graphic hoodies in Australia tend to have designs that are specific enough to feel intentional but not so niche that they age badly. References that mean something to real people, executed well, on a garment that is actually good.

Newscorpse Hoodie — graphic hoodie printed in Sydney by Lonely Kids Club

Our Graphic Hoodies at Lonely Kids Club

Everything we print is done to order in our Sydney studio on AS Colour blanks. AS Colour is widely considered the best garment supplier in Australia for quality, consistency and sizing. Our hoodies sit at 430 GSM and come in a range of fits including standard, oversized and crop styles. Sizes run from XS to 5XL and everything is gender neutral.

Here are some current favourites from the hoodies range.

Newscorpse Hoodie

A collaboration with Michael West Media. The design features a reference to News Corp's grip on Australian media — something a significant chunk of the country has feelings about. Bold graphic, great conversation starter, and prints beautifully on the heavy fleece. One of the most talked about recent releases in the range.

Dungeon Meowster Hoodie

A cat wearing a wizard hat in a dungeon setting. It sounds simple but the execution is what makes it. This has been in steady rotation in our range for years, which is the best sign a graphic hoodie design is genuinely working rather than just trending. Consistently one of the most gifted hoodies we make.

Badly Drawn Pet Hoodie

Custom. You send us a photo of your pet and our artists draw them in our signature loose illustration style, then print the result on a hoodie made specifically for you. It is one of the most personal things we make and one of the most gifted items in the whole range. Turnaround is a little longer than standard orders because each one is made from scratch, but the result is genuinely one of a kind.

How to Look After a Graphic Hoodie

The most common reason graphic hoodies deteriorate is heat, not age. The two things that shorten the life of a DTG printed hoodie faster than anything else are hot washing and tumble drying on high heat. Both break down the cured ink over time.

The care routine that keeps a graphic hoodie looking good is simple. Turn it inside out before washing — this protects the print from direct friction against other garments in the machine. Wash cold or on a gentle warm cycle. Air dry or use low heat in the dryer. Never iron directly on the print.

Do all of that and a well-made graphic hoodie should still look good after years of regular wear. We have designs from our early runs that are still going strong on people who have been wearing them since 2015.

Other Australian Hoodie Brands Worth Knowing

AS Colour — The benchmark for hoodie quality in Australia, and the blanks we use for all LKC prints. Their Supply Hood and Stencil Hood are consistently regarded as the best hoodies available locally for both feel and print quality. If you want a clean unprinted option direct from AS Colour, their retail range is worth a look.

Globe Brand — If sustainability and skate-adjacent style is your thing, Globe has been making organic cotton hoodies in Australia for years with a low-key approach to branding.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best hoodies in Australia?

It depends on what you want. For graphic hoodies in Australia with personality and ethical production, we back our own at Lonely Kids Club — printed to order in Sydney on AS Colour blanks. For clean unprinted basics, AS Colour's own retail range is hard to beat. For fashion-led options, independent Australian labels are generally a better source than large fashion chains.

What weight should a good hoodie be?

For everyday wear in Australian winters, look for something around 380 to 430 GSM. Light enough for mild days, warm enough when it actually gets cold. Our hoodies sit at 430 GSM.

Are graphic hoodies good quality?

They can be. The key is the print method and the base garment. We use AS Colour blanks and DTG printing in our Sydney studio, which gives us direct control over print quality. A good graphic hoodie should have a print that survives regular washing without cracking or fading significantly.

How do you wash a graphic hoodie?

Turn it inside out, wash cold or on a gentle cycle, air dry or low heat, no iron on the print. That is all it takes. Treated that way, a well-made graphic hoodie should hold up for years of regular wear.

Do you ship hoodies Australia-wide?

Yes. Everything ships from our Sydney studio. Free shipping on Australian orders over $85. We also ship internationally.

Are your hoodies gender neutral?

Yes. We offer multiple fits including standard, oversized and crop, and sizes run from XS to 5XL. No gendered sizing. Full detail on our sizing page.

Are Lonely Kids Club hoodies ethically made?

Yes. We print to order in Sydney — no overproduction, no dead stock — and use AS Colour garments. You can read more on our ethical clothing page.
