What does tnetennba mean?
Tnetennba is the made-up nine-letter word Moss uses in the Countdown scene from The IT Crowd. The episode does not give it an ordinary definition. Asked to put it in a sentence, he says, “Good morning, that's a nice tnetennba.” Very confident. Absolutely no further explanation.

What episode of The IT Crowd is tnetennba from?
Tnetennba appears in The Final Countdown, the second episode of series four. The episode listing gives its original UK date as 2 July 2010. Moss, played by Richard Ayoade, goes on Countdown and spots a nine-letter word in the jumble. He does it very fast, then just chills out while waiting.
When the host asks him to use it in a sentence, Moss replies, with total confidence, "Good morning, that's a nice tnetennba." Nobody questions it. Moss wins the round, goes on a record breaking streak, and earns his Countdown Teapot.
Is tnetennba a real word?
It is a fictional word in the scene, rather than a normal dictionary answer to the letters game. Fans use it outside the show now, but that does not give Moss's example sentence a particular meaning. He says it with total confidence and everyone accepts it. Arguably the most useful skill in a meeting.
Is tnetennba an anagram of something?
The scene uses nine letters: T-N-E-T-E-N-N-B-A. It does not provide an anagram-based explanation for the word. The joke is in Moss producing it and using it as though everyone should already know what it means.
What is Street Countdown?
The same episode follows Moss into the secret world of elite Countdown champions, including the 8+ Club, a velvet roped lounge for anyone who has managed an eight or better on the show, and the underground sport of Street Countdown, which is exactly what it sounds like: the letters game, played in the shadows, treated with the gravity of an illegal street race. If you have not seen it, it is 23 minutes very well spent.
So why do so many people search for it?
Because it looks as though it ought to mean something. If you remember the scene but not the episode, a dictionary search feels like a sensible place to start. It is a very effective joke about an apparently very obscure word.
Online joke definitions sometimes connect tnetennba with attracting visitors to a website. Those are interpretations outside the scene. The episode itself leaves us with Moss's example sentence. We would like to acknowledge that writing a blog post about it probably makes us part of the joke.
