Every tote bag here starts as a hand drawn design by an independent artist and gets printed to order in our Sydney studio on heavyweight 320 GSM cotton canvas. We have been making funny tote bags, Australian bird art totes, political statement pieces and custom pet portraits since 2011, and the range now runs to a couple of hundred designs. If you are after a tote that nobody else at the markets is carrying, this is the right corner of the internet.
We print on three cotton canvas tote styles, all with reinforced shoulder straps and the same heavyweight 320 GSM fabric, which is the difference between a bag that carries groceries for years and a flimsy conference freebie.
The Carrie Tote is the classic all-rounder at 42cm x 42cm with a 9.5cm gusset, big enough for a laptop, library books or a serious shop. The Parcel Tote is slightly smaller at 35.5cm x 39cm with a squared-off hem that gives it a neater, more structured look. The Shoulder Tote is the roomiest of the three at 46cm x 37cm with a 12.5cm gusset, made for people whose definition of essentials is generous.
The range covers a lot of ground. There are funny and unhinged designs in the same vein as our t-shirts, from instant noodle tributes to office email purgatory. There is a serious flock of Australian bird totes featuring magpies, galahs, cockatoos and finches, including original linocut style artwork by printmaker Bridget Farmer. There are political and protest totes, pop culture references, and collaborations with people like PurplePingers and Michael West Media.
If you want something genuinely one of a kind, the Badly Drawn Pet Tote puts a deliberately terrible portrait of your actual pet on a bag, drawn by our head designer Claire. It is consistently the most loved thing we make.
Several totes in this collection donate proceeds to causes we care about, including the Free Palestine Charity Tote. We have donated tens of thousands of dollars through sales drives over the years, and the charity range rotates as new causes need support, so check individual product pages for where the money goes.
Plenty of these designs make excellent school library bags and gifts for kids. The animal artwork, the Noot Noot Tote and the Totoro and Friends Tote are regulars in that department. The canvas is tough enough to survive a school term, and a tote with an absolute galah on it beats a plain one in any playground.
Like everything we make, totes are printed when you order them in our Artarmon studio, using OEKO-TEX certified inks. Printing to order means no warehouse of unsold stock heading to landfill, which is part of why Good On You rates us as an ethical brand. It also means your bag is made by a small team in Sydney rather than shipped from a dropshipping warehouse, and it shows in the print quality.
Cold gentle machine wash or hand wash, then air dry. Skip the dryer and avoid ironing directly over the print. Treated well, the print will outlast your interest in the joke.
The Carrie Tote suits most people for everyday use. Go the Shoulder Tote if you regularly carry a lot, or the Parcel Tote if you prefer something more compact and structured. Dimensions are listed on each product page.
Every tote is printed to order in our Sydney studio on ethically sourced cotton canvas blanks. We have been designing and printing in Sydney since 2011.
The Badly Drawn Pet Tote is our custom option, featuring an intentionally rough portrait of your pet. For bulk custom printing, our sister business Louie's T-Shirt Printing Co handles larger runs.
Yes. The charity range donates proceeds to causes including Palestinian aid, and we have ongoing contributions to WIRES wildlife rescue across the broader store. Each charity product page explains where the money goes.
