This week I interviewed a band I played through a lot during the semester break called Cough Cool. They are from Pennsylvania. They make songs that are lo-fi, ambient and a little quirky.
If I ever try to play anyone your music they just assume I’m on drugs for wanting to listen to it. What’s up with that?
That’s kind of funny. Someone on last.fm tagged Cough Cool as “drug pop”, so I guess people share drug experiences with it. I say ride on and get lit bros and chicks.
On that topic, what percentage of your fan base do you think are people who are just fucked out of their minds on drugs? And are you jealous?
50. I’m sure a lot of people rip things to the internet these days. I hear pills are coming back? Did they ever really leave? I got a Google + invite today I feel kind of special makes me want to do some drugs and + shit up with my with my people.
On the top of your tumblr page it says: “I want to hang out with everyone all the time” do you still express this opinion? I don’t know where you’re from but if you fly down to Sydney you can sleep over. We’ll stay up all night drinking creaming soda, watching chic flics, having pillow fights and talking about boys.
It’s kind of a joke. People who know me know I don’t really like “hangin’ out” and shit like that. I have like 5 friends and I’m super busy with work, workin’ out (getting huge), and making drug music so its kind of hard for me to really live by that motto.
Hey you know what we don’t have in Australia? Proms. What was your prom like? Did you have a king and queen? Did someone spike the punch? Did you lose your virginity under the bleachers with one of the cheerleaders?
Why no proms? Kind of weird, it’s a right of passage bro.. It’s when you have sex for the first time, right? do people even have sex in Australia? I was super popular in high school so it was cool. A lot of hip hop and try-hard white kids.
What is the general process for you to make a song. (I always try have one real question in these things.)
Laying down some stuff on a four track, hoping that things are kind of in tune and throwing it into the computer and mixing it down. A song usually takes like an hour if I’m really on. Lately I have been working with my best bud so the dynamic is a bit different. He’s smarter “musically” so I have to take a step back and be like “oh so you don’t want to play the same two chords over and over for 5 minutes.. Why not? We can fuzz it out”
You can check out Cough Cool’s music on their bandcamp page at https://coughcool.bandcamp.com/.
